This past week PB and Jterm honed in on some of the big inspiring personal brands both in the St. Louis area and around the country. It was an awesome opportunity to see how some well-known bloggers made it big.
What Stuck Out To Me
Through each presentation, there were many qualities about the individuals presented that hit home. Things I see in myself, desire to see in myself, and advice which I will take away.
- Overcoming the impossible and sharing your triumphs are seen in the brand of Kris Carr.
- Going out of your comfort zone daily and learning from your failures is encouraged by Jenn Cloud.
- Saying “yes” to every opportunity to discover what you like and dislike is stressed by Jess Leitch.
- Establish a platform of followers. “Many great things never get read because they don’t have a platform.” Scott Stratten.
- Dream big are the words and ideas encouraged by Danielle LaPorte.
Speaking of Inspiration
I feel as if this week’s class just constantly inspired me, and the above scene from the movie, The Pursuit of Happyness is one of my favorite inspirational talks.
“Don’t ever let somebody tell you, you can’t do something…if you got a dream, you got to protect it. If you want something, go get it. Period.” -Will Smith
This quote speaks truth for every area of life, and I believe it hits close to the heart with young college students. I say this because we are in the stage of emerging adulthood. We are trying to find our identity; we are unstable; and we are still full of childhood dreams.
Something which each inspirational brand presentation promoted was just what Smith stated. If you can dream it, you can do it. While that doesn’t mean achieving your goals or aspirations will be easy, the hard work and determination will be one hundred percent worth it.
Sure, you may have people constantly telling you that you’re headed in the wrong direction or that your work will amount to nothing…but who cares? If they are right, well you learned your lesson and they can say, “I told you so.” If they are wrong though…well then you have achieved the impossible. You have achieved greatness. And most importantly, you have achieved a dream which will bring you a huge sensation of accomplishment. This philosophy does not only work with your job. It works with beliefs, relationships, and talents as well.
The Final Take Away
Whatever it is you are pursuing with passion, remain committed to it. Do not let the negative words of others bring you done and put out the fire in your passion. If it’s something you want, go for it. If you are passionate, you can rarely be stopped.
While you can’t be stopped, you can experience challenge and failure. That was admitted in the journey of Jenn Cloud. She was a part of an advertising agency right out of college, and then let go shortly after…only then was she able to truly find her passion. Sure she experienced defeat, but now she is living her dream. Working for herself, doing what she loves, and making and impact in the world of social media. Props to her. And if she can do that, so can we.
